WORLD AGRICULTRUAL FORUM’S 2007 WORLD CONGRESS TO TAKE PLACE MAY 8-10 IN ST. LOUIS
"Creating Prosperity through Investments in Agriculture," Brings Together World Leaders for the Empowerment of Agriculture
ST. LOUIS (EMBARGOED)—The World Agricultural Forum’s 2007 World Congress, "Creating Prosperity through Investments in Agriculture," will take place May 8-10, 2007 at the historic Chase Park Plaza Hotel in mid-town St. Louis. The World Congress provides one of the world’s largest biennial gatherings of leaders in government, non-governmental organizations, businesses and academia to discuss the world’s growing population and the shortages of food, fuel, fiber and water in both developed and developing nations.
Keynote speakers for the 2007 World Congress include: Marian Fischer Boel, Commissioner for Agricultural and Rural Development for the European Union; Ambassador Crawford Falconer, Chairman of the World Trade Organization Agriculture Committee; and Mike Johanns, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture.
"For the past ten years, the World Agricultural Forum has brought world leaders together in a neutral and inclusive environment" said the Right Honorable James Bolger, ONZ, former Prime Minister of New Zealand and Ambassador to the United States, and current chairman of the World Agricultural Forum advisory board. "These leaders are the decision makers that have the power to make agriculture sustainable for the benefit of every man, woman and child on earth. The World Congress is particularly important as its agenda is designed to encourage world leaders to share opinions, collaborate resources and coordinate efforts to empower agriculture to be a wealth creator for all."
Sponsored by a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the W. K. Kellogg Foundation, the fifth World Congress is expected to bring together more than 300 senior leaders in the world’s agricultural system. The Congress will examine developing agriculture to produce wealth in developing countries, bioenergy, the role of infrastructure in promoting market development and trade, and management of the water supply to optimize economic growth.
"Each participant in the Congress is encouraged to work directly for change," said WAF Chairman Dr. Leonard Guarraia. "We hope the Congress and topics poised for discussion will initiate collaborative efforts among the attendees to create action plans that will empower agriculture across the globe."
World Agricultural Forum’s 2007 World Congress
The World Agricultural Forum provides the only neutral and inclusive congress striving for unity among international decision makers, to effect change in the global agricultural system.
Progressive, far-reaching solutions to global problems are needed now more than ever, with the expansion of the agribusiness industry beyond food into the spheres of innovative energy sources, industrial products and pharmaceuticals. The 2007 World Congress will serve as a forum for creating and implementing new technologies in these fields, to relieve the hunger and poverty experienced by citizens in nearly 50 countries worldwide.
